Minatauro was born on 2nd, June 1976 in Vitoria da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil.
Associated with Pride FC, he is truly one of the sport's most impressive fighters. His nickname, "minotauro" or "minotaur" comes from the mythological Greek creature that had the body of a man and the head of a bull. Nogueira is a gifted striker with quick jabs, but also likes to surprise his opponents with knees from the clinch. However, when people think of Nogueira, they think Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rightly so, Minatauro is one of the very best grapplers in the world, best known for his wicked arm bar from the guard, and his favourite submission, the triangle choke.

Involved in martial arts since the age of 5, at the age of 10, he had the most difficult combat in his life: a truck ran over him and left him with a broken leg and broken ribs which infact perforated his liver. "The truck hit me whilst reversing. I was thrown underneath the truck and it's wheels ran over my body slowly. My brother Rogerio tried to pull me out, but he couldn't. I only had time to move my head off the wheel and then felt the weight of the truck squeezing down on my chest." Minatauro spent 4 days in coma and almost one year in the hospital.

Amasingly, Minatauro fully recovered and has gone on to great competitive success in the sport of MMA, including becoming a Champion Title holder at the famous (Japanese) Pride Fighting Championships. In his vast MMA career, one of the best shows was at Pride 16, where he destroyed Mark Colleman, a very established and well respected MMA fighter. Since then, Minotauro name is placed high in the International MMA world, not to mention being an absolute idol for all Pride-FC MMA fans.
